Tennis Lessons - Tennis Lessons: Ages 7-10
West Haven Parks & Recreation is excited to bring back Tennis Lessons for children ages 7-14. Instructor John Kelly will be offering 5-week session starting Monday, April 29th.John has an impressive tennis background. He has been coaching youth sports since 1995. John is an 8 Time USTA tournament champion. He is currently ranked #2 (Top 25 in U.S.) in USTA Men's Tennis CT. He recently qualified for Men's Nationals in San Diego for his 2023 season success.John is CPR/AED Certified & also completing the USTA Safe Play Coaching Certification. John played three years of Varsity Tennis for West Haven High School and is the owner/head instructor of JK Tennis Academy in Milford, CT.
John will use the "Orange Ball" "Yellow Ball " and "Green Ball" method to instruct class.
At the orange ball level, John will introduce a larger court and longer racquet. Instruction emphasizes a game-based approach to tennis. The scaled down equipment will allow students to achieve ball control and rally skills more quickly. By the time your child advances to the next level they should have a consistent serve, be able to rally consistently in the orange ball court as well as have an understanding of topspin and underspin.

Strength & Conditioning for KidsOur Thursday night strength and conditioning class for kids ages 10-14 will focus on the foundations of exercise and muscle development while improving your child’s confidence. Whether you are looking to improve your speed and reaction time, make the high school team, build muscle, get in shape, learn new exercises, or make new friends, this is the class for you. Coach Pete is a CSCS certified trainer currently training kids at the gym at the Wonderland of Ice. Pete will show you exercises to make you faster and stronger. Kids will use body weight and light weights to get stronger, while working on core exercises to stabilize the muscles needed for balance and to help you get stronger.**Classes will meet and workout outside (weather pending) our building at 190 Kelsey Ave (the Park rec building) and start in the lower lot. West Haven Youth & Family Services is teaming up with West Haven Parks & Recreation to provide an alternative enrichment duckpin bowling for youth, ages 9-13 at Woodlawn duckpin Bowling.This 5 week program will be held between the hours of 4:00-5:15 PM every Wednesday starting May 29th - June 26th. Participants will bowl in their socks. Snack Bar is available on site. Parents must drop/pickup their child from the program. Staff from both city departments will be on hand to organize and help keep score while the children bowl. On the final week of this program their will be a pizza party for all the participants of the program. Join our exercise workout designed by instructor Heather Frazee twice a week (Monday's & Wednesday's) and see results in your energy level and waistline. This program will include various muscle toning and body sculpting techniques utilizing aerobic steps, exercise bands and bars, medicine ball, hand & leg weights. YOU control the intensity of your work out!-Class is designed for all levels of exercise enthusiasts - a fun way to tone & firm your body with noticeable results -Please provide your own floor mat, hand and /or leg weights - optional. Tennis Lessons - Tennis Lessons: Ages 7-10
West Haven Parks & Recreation is excited to bring back Tennis Lessons for children ages 7-14. Instructor John Kelly will be offering 5-week session starting Monday, April 29th.John has an impressive tennis background. He has been coaching youth sports since 1995. John is an 8 Time USTA tournament champion. He is currently ranked #2 (Top 25 in U.S.) in USTA Men's Tennis CT. He recently qualified for Men's Nationals in San Diego for his 2023 season success.John is CPR/AED Certified & also completing the USTA Safe Play Coaching Certification. John played three years of Varsity Tennis for West Haven High School and is the owner/head instructor of JK Tennis Academy in Milford, CT.
John will use the "Orange Ball" "Yellow Ball " and "Green Ball" method to instruct class.
At the orange ball level, John will introduce a larger court and longer racquet. Instruction emphasizes a game-based approach to tennis. The scaled down equipment will allow students to achieve ball control and rally skills more quickly. By the time your child advances to the next level they should have a consistent serve, be able to rally consistently in the orange ball court as well as have an understanding of topspin and underspin.

West Haven Youth & Family Services is teaming up with West Haven Parks & Recreation to provide an alternative enrichment duckpin bowling for youth, ages 9-13 at Woodlawn duckpin Bowling.This 5 week program will be held between the hours of 4:00-5:15 PM every Wednesday starting May 29th - June 26th. Participants will bowl in their socks. Snack Bar is available on site. Parents must drop/pickup their child from the program. Staff from both city departments will be on hand to organize and help keep score while the children bowl. On the final week of this program their will be a pizza party for all the participants of the program. West Haven Youth & Family Services is teaming up with West Haven Parks & Recreation to provide an alternative enrichment duckpin bowling for youth, ages 9-13 at Woodlawn duckpin Bowling.This 5 week program will be held between the hours of 4:00-5:15 PM every Wednesday starting May 29th - June 26th. Participants will bowl in their socks. Snack Bar is available on site. Parents must drop/pickup their child from the program. Staff from both city departments will be on hand to organize and help keep score while the children bowl. On the final week of this program their will be a pizza party for all the participants of the program. West Haven Youth & Family Services is teaming up with West Haven Parks & Recreation to provide an alternative enrichment duckpin bowling for youth, ages 9-13 at Woodlawn duckpin Bowling.This 5 week program will be held between the hours of 4:00-5:15 PM every Wednesday starting May 29th - June 26th. Participants will bowl in their socks. Snack Bar is available on site. Parents must drop/pickup their child from the program. Staff from both city departments will be on hand to organize and help keep score while the children bowl. On the final week of this program their will be a pizza party for all the participants of the program. This program will include various muscle toning and body sculpting techniques utilizing aerobic steps, exercise bands and bars, medicine ball, hand & leg weights. YOU control the intensity of your work out!-Class is designed for all levels of exercise enthusiasts - a fun way to tone & firm your body with noticeable results -Please provide your own floor mat, hand and /or leg weights - optional. Limited number of these items are available at the program location. -Exercise bands, medicine balls, aerobic steps, weighted poles, hand & leg weights will be utilized throughout the session. -For cancellations, monitor the homepage of this website for alerts or email, text notification
